Description

Relentless Publishing House presents Open Write Night: Black History Edition. This is a writing contest celebrating Black History. This contest is open to students in grades 5-12 and undergraduate students. Below are the writing topics and each one will be read at the event: 5th-6th grade: Write why Black History Month is important to you. (250 words min) 7th-8th grade: Write a “recipe for peace”. Share the ingredients, measurements, and directions. 9th-12th grade: Write about a typical day from the perspective of a black person living in the United States in the 1940s or 1950s. (500 words min) Undergraduate: coming soon (will be oral only with no paper) Bonus: There is a bonus category where contestants can choose to participate and the piece will be written on site and recited. As they check in, they will let us know if they want to participate. Students cannot choose to participate after the event has started.
