Through interactive activities and dialogue, participants will deepen their knowledge of the history and key concepts of race and racism, enhance their understanding of the how race and racism manifests in institutions and lived experiences. What can you do to move us in the right direction as it relates to MWCC’s equity imperative with a racial equity lens; Or ways in which to help prepare you AND your staff for this work; Or to be better active allies. This is a great start! We are committing time and resources to student’s and employee’s individual learning and strongly encourage you to join us for this in-person 2 ½ day Rethinking Racism and Building Community Workshop and Training. Through interactive activities and dialogue, participants will deepen their knowledge of the history and key concepts of race and racism, enhance their understanding of the how race and racism manifests in institutions and lived experiences. Drawing strength from the participants to build trust and respect, they work to break down barriers through the commitment to engage in this work. Using tools and methods that challenge old ways of being and doing and cultivate an environment of inclusion, engagement, and relationship development. This will lead to the creation of a framework that will inform your practices and serve as a preliminary resource for effectively tackling racially inequitable outcomes. This exciting opportunity is open to all MWCC students and employees with a maximum participation of 35 and will take place in the Multipurpose Room | Room #115. Participants are expected to attend the full 2 ½ days (March 1st, 2nd, and 3rd). Registration will close once the max. capacity of participants is reached. They represent a racially and culturally diverse network of people with expertise in providing organizational development consulting, racial/social justice & equity training, personal/professional coaching and mentoring, and a range of other consulting services.
