Join Sylvie Desautels from Tunbridge, Vermont. With her husband and cat, she has been living off the grid for 15 years. Learn how they produce 95% of their electricity from the sun without being connected to the electric grid. Sylvie will be joined by Chris Sparadeo, employee-owner and off-grid specialist at Catamount Solar in Randolph. His presentation will cover the basics of off-grid solar photvoltaic system components, system sizing and elementary energy load calculations. This class will discuss what it is like to live in an off-grid house and give you a clear understanding of what off-grid solar is as well as a working vocabulary to help more precisely communicate these concepts. The course will also touch on emerging technologies and market trends. Photos and diagrams will be used to help folks demonstrate the basic construction and concepts. Ample time will be given to questions and sharing ideas. Together they strongly believe in solar as a viable source of power in Vermont and a needed move away from detrimental climate-warming energy sources.
