Lactation Training for Physicians Practicing in Contra Costa County.Presented by: Sara Forouhar, MD, FAAP, IBCLCOverview: All direct care providers will engage in didactic, as well as competency-based training to support breast/chest feeding. Competency is verified through a series of measurable performance indicators i.e. skills stations, pre/post tests and case studies that target breast/chest feeding management. The goal of the training is to ensure providers can safely and compassionately deliver evidenced-based breast/chest feeding related education and care. Target Audience: Any provider granted privileges to provide education, assessment, support, intervention, assistance and/or follow-up with regards to infant feeding. [Including physicians, midwives, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses]. She is exclusively a pediatric hospitalist with majority of her practice being in newborn medicine. In addition to working at Contra Costa Medical Center, she is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine, where she developed the newborn and breastfeeding curriculum. Her passion for teaching spans throughout all realms of her practice, however it is most evident with breastfeeding education.
