Terra Cultura Presents: An Arts Showcase Series

23 February, 2023
Description
Open to folks of all ages, and previous engagements with writing/creating, the goal of this workshop will be to connect with our sense of play. Through guided writing experiments meant to enliven the page, we'll invite the strange into the space, try to break up with linear thought, and be more receptive and intuitive writers/humans. The intention will be to cast a wide, generative net and create, through some mix of interaction with our surroundings/each other, other art/writing, guided prompts & questions, and experimentation, a large body of raw material, a wildness that can be revisited later or not. The wildness we make will (hopefully!) resist the constraints put upon us as modern humans to produce a finished product. Art for art's sake! Whatever we write or make is sacred. Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook, pen, or whatever they wish to create with and are welcome to respond to the prompts in whatever medium they choose! nicole will give a little reading of her work, too. Thursday, February 23rd, 2023 7pm - 9pm in the Community Yurt Light refreshments provided. This is a free event; space is very limited so RSVP to reserve your seat. Carpooling is strongly encouraged! If you RSVP but will not be able to attend, please email us at [email protected] so we can make your seat available to someone else. Please note the yurt is accessed via an unpaved sloped path and stairs; let us know if you need accommodations. Terra Cultura Artist in Residence nicole v basta is a poet with proud familial roots in the coal mines and garment factories of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Her poetry, art practices, and teaching practice are rooted in wild making, not academics, and connected to the traditional sense of resourcefulness of her ancestors. That being said, she creates with the blessings of sacred uselessness and is actively decolonizing her idea of success. Her poems have found homes in places like Ploughshares, Waxwing, The Cortland Review, RHINO, Crazyhorse, Plume, The North American Review, Ninth Letter, etc. nicole's second chapbook the next field over was published by Tolsun Books in 2022. She is also a mixed-media collage artist, a teaching artist, the co-founder of Say Yes Electric Collective (2015-2018), and a fierce lover of the wild. nicole has collaborated with musicians, dancers, architects, sculptors etc. and her permanent address for the last few years has been her Corolla along with Brooklyn, (Art Farm) Nebraska, Austin, Ithaca, in-between.
