The passage of power in Florida’s gubernatorial history has usually been, at least on the surface, cordial and unremarkable. There were times, however, when lingering political rivalries or an unexpected event presented challenges to a smooth transition. Join historian Dr. R. Boyd Murphree as he explores some of these fascinating and often forgotten episodes from Florida's gubernatorial inaugurations. Following the program, Dr. Murphree’s edited volume The Governors of Florida (University Press of Florida, 2020) will be available for purchase. Lunch starts at 11:30 AM; program will begin around noon. The program and lunch are free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
