Description

Overview Sandtray therapy provides a particularly expressive form of play therapy that is useful for clients of all ages and abilities, making it an efficient tool for arts and play therapists, counselors, and others. Since not all play or arts therapists have received specific instruction in the nuances of sandtray utilization—especially in the area of safely holding any attachment traumas that are likely to appear in tray creation and processing—this workshop will highlight principles from the relational neurosciences and attachment and trauma-informed clinical theories as they relate to the integration of sandtray into parts-based trauma work. The focus will be on considering the person of the client and treatment plan components so that resilient and wounded parts are all welcomed into the process. This 1 Day workshop will be interactive and experiential. Training Objectives 1. Describe the trauma sensitive curation of sand-based play therapy materials 2. Describe attachment theory components that naturally emerge in sand-based play therapy sessions 3. Describe the 2 aspects of self that are present in clients’ attachment trauma worlds during sand-based play therapy. 4. Identify 3 attachment trauma-informed considerations for processing clients’ sandtray worlds during play therapy sessions 5. Describe 2 types of regulation work available to the sandtray therapist that use basic sand-based play therapy materials 6. Identify methods for monitoring person of the play therapist in attachment trauma-charged play therapy sessions
