True Shea, the brand of NSC, was founded in Addo's basement a few years ago, and is now selling products in approximately 1,200 Kroger stores as well as Walmart, Target, and Amazon. Addo's book will share his entrepreneurial journey and also give credit to all the wonderful people and institutions that have supported him through this adventure. NSC is a black-owned, natural beauty care company with a mission of supporting & empowering the women of Ghana where our shea butter is sourced. The growing brand, True Shea, has been featured on Fox19 Now and is available across the United States. In addition to NSC, Addo is also the CEO of Africa America Business Promotion - a company that promotes business between Africa and the United States. In this capacity he organized the first “Africa America Trade and Investment summit” at the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce in July 2018. This event was attended by Ghana’s Minister of Trade, Ghana’ Ambassador to the United States, President of Cintas Corporation, Kroger, Proctor and Gamble, and businesses from Canada, China, New York among others. Manny Addo has an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Xavier University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Cape Coast. He worked as a Senior Financial Analyst for General Electric, Fifth Third Bank, Duke Energy, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and JP Morgan. He also worked with Maersk Sealand as a shipping supervisor providing him rich experience in customs clearance and supply chain management. Addo’s educational, cultural, and professional exposure in Africa and the United States enables him to successfully promote business between these regions. One of his proudest achievements was being able to sponsor a clean drinking well in Ghana through True Shea in February of 2022 for the amazing women that supply our Shea Butter. Not only are these women economically disadvantaged, but they are oftentimes socially shunned from their local communities. The True Shea company pays above market value so that the women can provide for themselves and their families. However, Addo didn’t want to stop there – that’s why he created a community fund to invest back into the place they call home. When Addo started NSC, it was important that he supported and gave back to his home country, Ghana. That's why his company pays above market value for our Shea Butter so that these women can provide for themselves and their families. He didn’t want to stop there though – he created a community fund to invest back into the place they call home. The Ghana Community Fund identifies needs in the area, and uses funds provided by the company to implement solutions to those needs. One very important need was clean drinking water. The women were traveling several miles to collect clean water in their own containers and had the difficult task of carrying the heavy vessels back to their families. The installation of the well was life-changing to this community. It’s the part of his business that makes him feel like he has really achieved something. Manny is also a member of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, Ohio Minority Supply Development Council, and the Cincinnati African American Chamber of Commerce.
