ERAU in conjunction with JPL will be hosting a screening of the movie "Good Night Oppy" followed by an hour-long Q&A Session with Opportunity Rover engineers Dr. Ellison and Dr. Trebi-Ollennu. Good Night Oppy tells the inspirational true story of Opportunity, a rover that was sent to Mars for a 90-day mission but ended up surviving for 15 years. The film follows Opportunity's groundbreaking journey on Mars and the remarkable bond forged between a robot and her humans millions of miles away. Dr. Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu, is the Product Delivery Manager, for the InSight Mars Mission Instrument Deployment System, Instrument Deployment System operations Team Chief and technical group lead in the Robotic Manipulation & Sampling group at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, where he has been since 1999. His current research at JPL focuses on Planetary Rovers, Manipulation, Multiple Mobile Robots (Planetary Outpost), Reconfigurable Robots and Man-machine Interaction. Dr. Trebi-Ollennu’s research has resulted in more than 95 publications. Dr. Doug Ellison, is the Engineering Camera Payload Uplink Lead and Team Lead, for the Mars Rover Missions, and Instruments Operations Engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, where he has been since 2010. His role began with the Curiosity Rover Landing Animation, producing the Eyes on the Solar System project, the Spacecraft 3D AR App, DSN Now and Microsoft HoloLens project "Destination: Mars". Since 2016, he has been the Engineering Camera Payload Uplink Lead for Both Opportunity and Curiosity rovers, and since 2019 the Engineering Camera Team Lead for Curiosity. Dr. Ellison's work has allowed rover guidance systems to target and plan scientific endeavors on mars. Additional Info: Join us on the Connelly Quad for an outdoor movie night!
