Lecture and Demo on Fruit Tree Care and Pruning Join Kitsap Harvest’s Alan Lowe, for a Fruit Tree Care & Pruning presentation offered Feb. 22th at the Norm Dicks Government Center. A 2-hour lecture with Q&A, presenting information about the (why, what, when, how, etc.) of pruning. The stand-alone presentation is heavy with information, demonstration, and resources (bring your notebook). Apple and pear trees should be pruned in winter to maintain a healthy shape and size and to ensure they will fruit plentifully for future decades. We will teach you the theory and practice of winter fruit tree pruning. This class is intended to provide beginners knowledge and confidence to begin caring and pruning their fruit trees. *Hands-On Training option- In a guided environment, craft your skill (Small Personal Group Setting). One of three outdoor, field work, guided practice sessions in pruning (at least two hours) Sites have at least two different types of trees e.g. Plum, apple, peach, pear. • March 4th Hands On (Port Orchard) 6 people • March 11th Hands On (Port Orchard) 6 people • March TBD (Weekday) Hands On (Gig Harbor) 6 people (Will be offered during the presentation to sign up, as a date is agreed upon by interested participants.) Each Hands-On event will be 2 to 2.5 hours long in-field. Participants will need to dress weather appropriate and bring gloves. Bring your own pruning shears or whatever tools you have available that you would use to prune and we can help guide you through their particular use and any advantages or disadvantages with specific tools. Backyard gardeners, new small acreage farmers and homeowners with fruit trees on their property are all encouraged to attend! Cost: $10 for Lecture *an additional $40 for Hands-On Portion All ticket sales go towards supporting the Kitsap Harvest gleaning program, Feeding Families from Front Yards, Foodbanks, and Farms.
