Description

Join us at Ziggy's for a cozy evening of orignal music. Chris Bathgate & Samantha Cooper collaborate on songs from both their catalogues. Steve Leaf brings his thoughtful expansive music from Grand Rapids. The impeccably expressive Jim Cherewick starts the evening. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Samantha Cooper’s voice is a gentle force. Her songs speak for their sound; from contemplative respites to keen PSA’s. A veteran session musician, her voice and violin appear on over 70 Michigan made albums. She's also a 2021 Newsong Songwriting finalist. Her latest video single is a love note to the water is life movement and the rights of manoomin (wild rice) titled “Let The Wave (feat. Shara Nova, Jaike Spotted Wolf, Holly T. Bird & Frank Bibeau)”. Sam is from the Huron & Kalamazoo River watersheds. She works as a musician, an organizer, a mediator and a teaching artist via Youth Arts Alliance, LV and The Gift Of Music. She also co-produces Hearth & Hymn with Elisabeth Pixley-Fink. There is a quiet confidence to the music of Steve Leaf. He has been writing songs for fifteen years now. Some songs about love, some songs about love lost, and others about everything else to cover all the bases. Steve hails from Michigan and cut his teeth in the singer/songwriter scene of Chicago. With his latest release, ‘Twelve Songs’, Steve has woven his love of drum machines and synthesizers into his songwriting. He swears he knows what he’s doing, but some of us have doubts. Jim Cherewick's music has the capcity to strike you someplace you thought only you knew about. It's a universe in itself. It spans brash-harsh tones, teeterng whimsy, raw creativity, and careful moments of peripheral chaos.
