Description
Join us for a fascinating spring lecture on Mojave and Colorado Desert pollinators by Dennis Walker, co-author of ‘The Butterflies and Skippers of Joshua Tree National Park’. Mr Walker will discuss this new helpful field guide to the butterflies you may encounter on a visit to the park and provide participants with an in-depth account of these insects within their desert habitats. Books will be available for purchase and the authors will be available for book signing. The event is from 1 to 3pm. Madena Asbell, Director of Plant Conservation Programs at the Mojave Desert Land Trust, will lead guided tours of the Mojave Desert Discovery Garden before and after the event. RSVPs are required and tours are first-come, first-served. This lecture is in honor of Audrey W. Rottman
Dennis Walker has been photographing and raising butterflies since he was a teenager and created the website socalbutterflies.com in 2007 as a place to document all the southern California butterflies. He is especially interested in their life cycle, caterpillar food plants, and their place in the bigger, ecological picture. He is a graphic designer by profession and founded Darkbloom Press to publish the Joshua Tree book and future volumes on California butterflies from various places. In the last couple of years, he’s focused on the Mojave Preserve and the greater Big Bear region for study.
