February is American Heart Month and there's no better time to consider getting a heart check up. Did you know heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S.? The physicians at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) want to see you before you have symptoms or a life-changing cardiac event. CIS & Attorney Peyton Murphy are teaming up for a free EKG screening this Valentine's Day (February 14) at the Murphy Law Firm (2354 S Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, LA 70808) from 12 - 4 p.m. Guests will receive a complimentary Electrocardiogram (EKG) screenings. An EKG is a painless test that records the electrical signals of the heart. The screening can detect blockages, the thickness of the heart wall, past heart attacks and more. Results will be reviewed on site by CIS nurse practitioners. Risk factors of cardiovascular disease include family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smoking, being overweight or being inactive. Registration is required.
