Description
As therapists, we may be asked to complete short term disability and/or intermittent leave paperwork for our clients who may be struggling with mental health symptoms. We may also determine that it would benefit or be necessary for a client to be off work for a period of time in order to better address their mental health challenges. In this highly interactive in-person workshop, learn how to properly complete short-term disability (STD) paperwork from the clients employer (often sent from a 3rd party disability administrator like Sedgwick, Reed Group , The Hartford, Prudential, etc.). Learn how to complete paperwork with the least amount of hassle while still being able bill for the time spent completing forms. Some of the learning objectives in this workshop: 1.) When we should be completing STD forms and when we can and should decline to complete the forms for clients 2.)How to ensure we have the correct forms and time frames to complete (mental health leave vs medical leave) 3.)How to complete forms in sessions, including mini-mental exams and responses on forms to ensure they are approved by clinical reviewers 4.) Learn the difference between short-term disability forms vs intermittent leave 5.) Discuss standard expectations of therapists and clients to ensure ethical boundaries while advocating for clients to achieve optimal clinical outcomes and be able to return to work. Krista Woods, M.S.W., LCSW has extensive experience in assessing therapy clients who are in need of short -term disability leave or intermittent leave due to symptoms of mental health diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and post-partum depression. She has learned how to clinically assess clients for disability leave, and has learned how to effectively navigate paperwork and 3rd party administrator challenges to become a disability leave preferred provider among many EAP companies and preferred by clients. Come and learn shortcuts from a pro! This workshop directly connects to Social Workers revised Code of Ethics, and our responsibilities to ensure that we are helping those in need, and bringing integrity and competence in this area.
