Description

We think Kyle Ledson’s 21st birthday is such a big deal, it warrants two nights of celebration. Kyle is one of our favorite musicians in the history of the Crazy Horse and we are thrilled for him to showcase his acoustic and electric sides over the course of one weekend. The Crazy Horse has been an integral venue in supporting Kyle’s rapidly blossoming talent and it’s fitting he would be continuing his quest for musical excellence within these hallowed walls. He has honed his bluegrass craft since he was kindergartner and it shows. Kyle has recorded and performed with artists including Yonder Mountain String Band, Bill Nershi, ALO, Hot Buttered Rum, Stu Allen, Peter Grant and many more. You’ve seen him work his instrumental sorcery with countless other artists at the Crazy Horse, mostly in the acoustic realms. When you get a taste of his blistering chops on the electric guitar, you’ll be amazed this is a relatively new addition to his repertoire. His strength as a singer also continues to grow exponentially. KylePalooza kicks off with Chico’s freshest musical sensation – Cosmic Frog. Their latest incarnation borrows all the members of Broken Compass Bluegrass and sees them morph their musical identities into adventurous, amphibious rock stars. The band’s fun, dancey vibe is infectious with Sam Jacobs driving the groove on bass, the versatile Django Ruckrich stretching himself into new realms on guitar and Mei Lin Heirendt showing how violin can explore the bounds of unfamiliar terrain. Other than Kyle, the lone torchbearer from the OG Cosmic Frog lineup is drummer Aidan Steckley. He brings a thoughtful, jazzy touch and a funky pocket that exceeds his years. They were an instant favorite during their Crazy Horse debut during Hot Summer Nights last year and have come a long way since. While there is undoubtedly bluegrass inspiration at its core, Cosmic Frog is an unabashed jam-rock band. At one of their shows, you might find yourself metaphorically barreling down the roads of the great American west with rich imagery spiraling through your mind. They take a cerebral approach in distilling the influence of many of the best psychedelic jambands of past and present. Grateful Dead and Phish are certainly at the top of that list. Their understanding of how to play this material reflects an intense passion and focus. You’ll be hanging on every note as they tap in to an undercurrent of patient improvisation. It’s also thrilling to hear a number of Kyle’s mature, original compositions turbocharged in this electric terrain. The mind-expanding eye candy from Hippie Bob’s Liquid Lightshow will enhance this experience to the nth degree!
