Description

When MLK Jr. said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice,” the slow march of time felt heavy but hopeful. Many lives have been born, matured, and even died in the six decades since King said those words, but the struggles of racial justice and equity are still weighing on our steps as society attempts to come full circle and heal the wounds of generational trauma. In this year’s elevated storytelling series, Storytellers Macon: Live at Wesleyan College partners with the Lane Center for Social and Racial Equity to examine how moments in our lives still test us in our failures and triumphs to bend the arc more towards change. This call-and-response performance series will first hear from the perspectives of featured seniors on February 25th, as they recall race and culture as a function of their identity. Students from our Spring show will support and listen to these elders as they take the mic to explain how they have twisted and endured bending the arc over their lifetimes. Part of the Crafting Democratic Futures project, this vulnerable journey of personal stories is the second in two evenings of sharing and catharsis not to miss! Taylor Auditorium is accessible to everyone. Please let us know if you need preferred seating.
