The language and behaviors of Black/African Americans in professional and educational environments is a story of survival by learning to change to maintain. In this discussion, participants will discuss the roots of AAVE (African-American Vernacular English) and how the presentation cultural norms such as AAVE and other mannerisms by African-Americans in White spaces such as academia or corporate America has been used to hurt and hinder advancement.
In addition, participants will discuss code switching and the reasons that Black/African Americans continue to do it to this very day.
