This off-trail nature hike will take you through the various ecosystems and habitats in Winding Waters Natural Area. A hike through this restored wetland will reveal deep and shallow marshes that support wading birds and a variety of water fowl…there may even be some ducklings swimming about. Abundant native plants and wildflowers thrive in the different habitats that include mesic flatwoods, hydric hammocks and a wet prairie. A large variety of pollinators and butterflies flourish in Winding because of all the food and nesting resources available. This event is hosted by our Natural Areas Adopter- Palm Beach Pack & Paddle Club. Join PhD biologist- Inke Sunila and Florida Wildflower Foundation Board member-CJ McCartney on a hike that will take you on trails around the marshes and through various habitats.
Approximately 2.5 hours, 2 – 3 miles, on crushed rock trails and natural terrain.
Please bring water, appropriate clothing (hat, long-sleeved shirts and pants for bugs) and bug spray. This site does NOT have restroom facilities but are a short drive away within Dyer Park.
