YOU'RE INVITEDThe private screening of this film is presented by the WNY Literacy Initiative, a collaborative effort comprised of teachers, parent groups, community organizations, local universities, education non-profits, and literacy experts. The mission of the WNY Literacy Initiative is to improve literacy rates in Western New York, especially in underserved communities, through a multi-year, three-pronged effort involving community outreach, professional development, and advocacy. Literacy experts from across America, including Emily Hanford of Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong and Lacey Robinson of UnboundEd, emphasize the seriousness of the illiteracy crisis and share how the implementation of science and evidence-based practices can transform lives and ensure that every child learns how to read. Open to everyone in the Buffalo community, please join us at Tapestry Charter School on Thursday, February 9th for a screening to start promptly at 5pm, followed by a discussion with Samuel Radford of We the Parents of WNY & the Community Action Organization of WNY, and Laurie Puhn Feinstein, Board President of Teach My Kid to Read.
