As is often the case in places where life moves at a pace dictated by the changing seasons rather than blinding technology, the arts became a strong influence on Cody. Growing up, music became a place for introspection and deep solace. Being drawn to the pioneers of traditional Bluegrass and Country sounds, while also relating wildly to the angst and aggression of metal music, Woody found that with any genre musicians who communicated passion, transparency, and dedication to their craft, were among his favorites. He looked to these traits with such admiration that they soon became the attributes that helped shape the accomplished musician he is today. Cody’s first exposure to national touring began at age 16, playing seven string lead guitar with a variety of Christian metal bands. Following this experience, Cody turned his talents and touring schedule towards his early loves of traditional Bluegrass and Country music. Diving deep into the work of the greats; Dr. Ralph Stanley, Hank Williams Sr., Stonewall Jackson, Ray Price, Merle Haggard, Flat & Scruggs and The Carter Family with studious fervor, Cody began carving out his own unique tones and approaches. Communicating freely tunes relatable to the trials and triumphs of life. Woody tackled the advanced acoustic styles of traditional flat picking and then took to the mandolin. His approach at the mandolin is so emotional and precise it seems to give it a voice all it’s own. As a matured player Cody toured extensively with many notable country acts. Among these are Hayseed Dixie, and singer-songwriter Josh Morningstar. While touring Cody continued to grow his arsenal and began writing his own songs. Songs that are lyrically of longing and relatability as well as extensively complex instrumentals. Living currently in rural North Carolina and raising his precious daughter, Cody has developed a love tenderness and love of family that he matches with the same dedication he pours into his art. These efforts in my opinion only grow one another. Because of all of this there is something for every style of listener in the Cody Woody catalog. Woody is often energetic and fast paced yet possesses the rare knack of being able to add just enough emotional inflection to draw in any seeking heart. Seeing a live Cody Woody performance is a delicacy
