Join Pie Ranch in Santa Cruz for a night of fine dining, farm recovery, and live music! Chef Diego Felix of Colectivo Felix prepares a meal from farm-fresh ingredients at the courtyard of Fonda Felix for a cozy, one-of-a-kind meal. All proceeds go to support storm recovery at Pie Ranch. Enjoy live music from Lucas Lawson! We will also have a booth to learn more about recovery work being done at Pie Ranch, and farm goodies and swag available for purchase. Beverages are not included in ticket price, but are available to purchase at the event. Storm Damage Update from Pie Ranch: The heavy rains and strong winds hit us hard, affecting the strides we have made towards recovery since the devastating CZU fire in 2020. Despite our best efforts to remove non-native eucalyptus trees from the Pie Ranch ecosystem, they remain on the property in significant numbers and two large trees fell on our newly installed 30,000 gallon water tank, destroying it. At the Cascade Regenerator Farm, the two hoop houses that serve our farmer participants have been ruined by the strong winds. Cascade Creek transported such a huge amount of sediment downstream that the waters breached their normal banks and flooded the farm residence area, preventing the farmers from accessing their homes. We have a rough estimate of $100,000 in damages and are asking for your immediate assistance to combat the worst effects of this storm. There are still a lot of uncertainties and speculations regarding future climate scenarios, but we at Pie Ranch are not discouraged. Instead, together with our partners, we will continue to combat the climate crisis through native plant revegetation, the removal of harmful trees like eucalyptus, the forging of an interconnected and localized food system that reduces carbon emissions and by using restorative farming techniques. We’ll continue to learn all we can from events like this one to become ever more resilient in the face of the long battle to heal the land.
