West Michigan Farm Bill Listening Session

Other

3200 Eagle Park Dr NE,Grand Rapids MI 49525-7057

23 February, 2023

Description

The Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN), with support from both the US Senate and House of Representatives Ag Committees (R & D's), is arranging listening sessions with local Christian farmers on the 2023 Farm Bill. The listening sessions are intended to be a space to learn directly from Christian farmers across the country about what has worked and not worked about the last Farm Bill iteration, as well as to hear what local farmers would like to see added or changed in the 2023 reauthorization. Michigan farmers are particularly important to hear from because Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) is the chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee and will be shepherding the reauthorization process forward. What's more, she recently announced her plans to retire in 2024, making this her final Farm Bill. It is believed that she sees this reauthorization as a legacy building opportunity and will be more willing to make more substantive changes than she otherwise might have been. Plainsong Farm and Kent Conservation District are working with EEN to recruit for a listening session in western Michigan, and we would love for you to join us. Lunch will be provided.
