LASNA presents its annual lymphedema conference. This year’s topics will focus on side effects from breast and gynecologic cancers. Speakers will include: Dr. Caroline Schreeder will share updates from the Breast Cancer Congress. She will present best practices for identifying risk factors, screening, treatment options, and managing pain and neuropathy. Dr. Rebecca Uhlman’s presentation is "Busting Myths About Breast Cancer and Lymphedema" She will speak about common misconceptions about breast cancer care and lymphedema and how to be your own advocate. Dr. Jazma Dobbins will talk about sexuality and cancer. Aftereffects of cancer treatment can leave a person feeling scared, in pain, damaged and depressed. Dr. Dobbins will share strategies of how to deal with these aftereffects and fully re-engage in life. ACCCC: The Alabama Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition’s mission is to eliminate the burden of cancer in Alabama. Research shows the HVP vaccine to be highly effective in reducing cancer and ACCCC will present research finding and discuss challenge and strategies they have when implementing the vaccine in faced in Alabama. Brittany Curwen and Melissa Flowers are certified lymphedema therapists and will share treatment strategies for managing lymphedema, scar tissue, pain, neuropathy and other side effects from treatment of cancer. LASNA - Lymphedema Awareness and Support Network of AL – is a non-profit whose purpose is to increase awareness of lymphedema through education and to provide support for people with living with lymphedema. They hold support group meetings throughout the state and raise funds for treatment and supplies for patients with financial needs.
