Description

Calling all rose lovers! Whether you're a seasoned grower or just starting out with these fabulous flowering plants here in the Pacific Northwest, we all could use a brush-up on a few of the finer points of their care and culture. And one of the topics we get asked about most is pruning. That's why, on Saturday, February 18, we're excited to host representatives from the Portland Rose Society right here at the Farm to talk about all things rose pruning. They'll be demonstrating how to and when to cut back different classes of roses, from shrubs to climbers and floribundas to hybrid teas. And as an added bonus, they will also be offering free pruner sharpening to make sure you're fully ready to make clean, confident cuts when the time is right. Bring your questions (and your pruners!) for this drop-in informational session and demonstration. ---------- When? Saturday, February 18, from 11:30am - 3:30pm Where? Onsite at Cornell Farm. Exact location TBD, depending on weather. Team members in our Checkout Greenhouse will be happy to direct you to the correct location day-of. What to bring? Bring your questions and garden pruners(limit one set of pruners per person, please). ---------- Established in 1888, the Portland Rose Society has been growing and showing the best-of-the-best roses for the enjoyment of Portland's citizens for more than 100 years. In addition to presenting one of the premier rose shows in the United States, they have built and help to maintain the Gold Medal Garden and its bower at the Washington Park International Rose Test Garden, and seek to provide free rose growing advice and assistance to gardeners wishing to join them in the happy and worthwhile tradition of growing roses.
