Join us in welcoming the Black UChicago community at the inaugural Black Conference Meeting on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Ida Noyes Hall Cloister Club. The doors will open at 12:00 PM the event will begin with a reception with food and refreshments. The meeting will begin at 1:00 PM. Following the meeting, a Black organization within UChicago and the community fair/mixer will begin at 3:00 PM. The dress code is business casual/business. The dress code is business casual/business. The UChicago Black Conference meeting is the first of its kind and is in collaboration with the Organization of Black Students and the African and Caribbean Student Association, University of Chicago Association of Black Alumni, several undergraduate and graduate RSOs, faculty, staff, and community members. Any member of the Black UChicago community is welcome to attend. Our theme for Black Council 2023: “Our Future: Envisioning The Black Community Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” The purpose of this meeting is to: Recognize: the release of the proposal on a Black Community Center at the University of Chicago. Read our End of the Year report here Synergize: The meeting will feature representatives from Black registered student organizations across the University; undergraduate, graduate, and alumni (list confirmed RSOs/organizations). We will also feature speakers from throughout the Chicagoland community restoring the community relationship with our neighbors. Energize: The future of Black Council meetings will go beyond advocating for the establishment and support of a Black community center, but also serve as a annual reunion for for mentorship, strengthening community amongst students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community, and reimagining the future of Black UChicago and how we can use our positions of power for the empowerment of both UChicagoans and the South Side community.
