Family engagement has also been noted as a key component in the MTSS framework that is guiding the support of students across the state of Minnesota. However, family-school partnerships have long been treated as a "nice to have". Schools often dedicate the least systematized effort toward family engagement, relative to the other components of a strong MTSS framework.
A new research study shows that effectively engaging families decreased student absenteeism rates by 15% and led to 7-9% gains in student academic outcomes, with an even greater impact among the highest-needs students. By creating strong partnerships with families, schools can accelerate learning and well-being gains for all students while closing the gap for the most traditionally underserved students.
In this collaborative workshop, we will discuss strategies on how to effectively and equitably leverage families as the key to MTSS and ultimately improved student outcomes.
