The purpose of The Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS is to bring national attention to the AIDS epidemic in the United States and the extraordinary role faith communities can and are playing in AIDS prevention, education, service and advocacy. The Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS will promote the continuous national mobilization and education of faith communities to take an even greater role in the implementation of AIDS education and services within their local communities and across the nation. For more than 15 years, The Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, Inc’s HIV Program also has a Faith-Based response to the issue of HIV as it coordinates the Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS. A free dinner will be followed by a program about HIV, stigma, and compassionate care for people who are living with and affected by HIV. Ways you, your Church or organization can participate: - attend the service at St Gabriel's COGIC on March 12, 2023 - Make HIV awareness, compassion and action the highlight of your worship experience during the week of March 5-12, 2023 . This may include, but not limited to: - Make HIV education and compassion the focus of the morning and/or evening sermons - Specifically pray for the healing of AIDS during altar call - Organize a community wide candlelight and prayer vigil and/or a community HIV education and testing activity - Widely distribute HIV information to the congregation and community - Promote HIV testing by providing this direct service or partnering with your local health department or community health service agencies - Consciously design ways to show compassion and care to persons living with and affected by HIV For more information about this event or other HIV faith based activities please contact: Jim Addison, HIV/AIDS Program Coordinator Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, Inc.
