Historically, Cooley BLSA hosts the Charles Hamilton Houston Black Tie Affair annually every fall to acknowledge the great achievements of Mr. Houston in the fight against racial injustice. Mr. Houston’s most outstanding accomplishment came from serving as counsel for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in the University of Maryland v. Murray case, which resulted in the United States Supreme Court ordering the University to admit African Americans into their law school.
In addition to recognizing Mr. Houston’s accomplishments, our hope is that the Black Tie Affair will create an atmosphere where students can network with judges, attorneys, and other community leaders from the Greater Lansing area. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 25th, 2023 starting at 6:30pm at the Cadillac Club in Lansing, Michigan.
