Description
Are you a youth birder looking to connect with the Indiana birding community at large? Look no further than the Indiana Young Birders Network! The Indiana Young Birders Network is a free Indiana Audubon sponsored community working to connect Indiana youth birders and nature enthusiasts alike to the birding world! Our goal is to create a safe, fun, and innovative environment for youth birders to grow and learn with hands-on field birding experience, educational demonstrations, and much more! For anyone who couldn't attend our January hike, the IYBN is having their second official hike on Monday, February 20th, 2023 outside of the Holliday Park! We will be meeting outside of the Nature Center at 10:00am and will kickstart the hike with introductions as well as a brief overview of the IYBN's goals/aspirations. We will plan to bird around the Holliday Park nature center, watching the feeders from the side of the building, and walking the main trails that border the White River for winter songbirds! Due to it being a national holiday, the nature center will be closed, however outdoor restroom options such as portalets are present on site. We will expect to hike no more than 1.8 miles on mostly level terrain. The trails we will be hiking are not wheel-chair accessible due to a small fraction of the trails being uphill/downhill. Those who already own a pair of binoculars feel free to bring them. We will have a limited supply of binoculars that can be borrowed, if you do not have a pair. Dress warm and wear hiking boots if possible, certain areas of the trail may be muddy due to melting snow. This is a perfect opportunity to see some of Indiana's most iconic winter birds while getting to know other youth birders from around the state! Registration is required but there is no fee to attend the hike. Parents are more than welcome to join us! If you have any other additional questions/concerns regarding the IYBN, or this event, feel free to contact Youth Coordinator, Aidan Rominger, at [email protected]
