Description

As Peer Support Specialists, Recovery Coaches, and Family Peer Support Specialists, we get to see a side of the people we support that other providers don't get to see. Sometimes, that means we see signs that someone may have thoughts of suicide, and that we are in the best position to ask that person to open up about those thoughts. In this 2 day workshop, you will: Learn signs of possible suicidal thoughtsPractice starting conversations about suicideLearn a framework for having a conversation about suicide that validates the person you're helping & leads toward safetyConnect & practice with people from different agencies in the communityAbout the Trainers: Sara Knox is the Director of Iowa Peer Network and has 14 years of experience working on a crisis hotline and training volunteers. She is a trained Peer Support Specialist and has a Master's degree in Social Work. This will be the 45th Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Sara has conducted. JD Deambra is a Peer Support Specialist and has been a facilitator and trainer for NAMI and Peer Support for 7 years. He has experience managing a wellness center and supervising Peer Support. He is a trained Peer Support Specialist and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) facilitator.
