For Troop 766 Scouts only!
We will be offering a Dentistry Merit Badge on Thursday, February 16th from 6:00-8:00 pm! You will be meeting at Coral West Dental, located at 2575 Coral Ct. Coralville. Dr. Jeff Rubel, DDS, will be presenting and Julie Bushman ([email protected]) is the MB Counselor!
Details:
1) Please wear your Class A uniform.
2) No cost!
3) Class is limited to 10 Scouts.
4) Requirement #6 (see below) - Scouts must pick 2 options (b and e are recommended but Scouts can do any 2 options). Scouts are strongly encouraged to finish these beforehand and bring them to class. They should complete the MB if #6 is done before the class.
5) We'll try organizing a carpool too. When registering, adults can include whether they could drive. If carpooling, we'll meet at 5:15 at the Kennedy parking lot. Whether carpooling or not, please plan for traffic and arrive on time so the class can start at 6:00 pm.
#6 Do TWO of the following:
a. Make a model tooth of soap, clay, paper-mache, or wax. Using a string and a large hand brush, show your troop or a school class proper toothbrushing and flossing procedures.
b. Make a poster on prevention of dental disease. Show the importance of good oral health.
c. Collect at least five advertisements for different toothpastes. List the claims that each one makes. Tell about the accuracy of the advertisements.
d. Write a feature story for your school newspaper on the proper care of teeth and gums. Include in your story how the use of tobacco products can negatively affect a person's oral health.
e. Make drawings and write about the progress of dental decay. Describe the types of dental filling and treatments a dentist can use to repair dental decay problems.
