Description

In the alternating months of March, May, July, September, November, and January (2024), the Museum and Human Rights Commission will host The Compassion Club: Building Belonging with Books, a book club focused on works by diverse authors. The Compassion Club will also meet on the second Tuesday at 6pm at the Pennyroyal Area Museum. We will kick off the Compassion Club in March with Yaa Gyasi's book Homegoing. This powerful novel tells the story of two half sisters born in 18th century Ghana and of their descendants. Their parallel journeys take the reader through eight generations and across centuries in a painful, yet triumphant, story. Books Featured March 9: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi May 11: The Woman in the White Kimono by Ana JohnsJuly 13: Faithful Place by Tana FrenchSeptember 14: Midnight’s Children by Salman RushdieNovember 9: The Taste of Sugar by Marisel VeraJanuary 11, 2024: The World to Come by Dara HornJoin the Compassion Club for $50.00 for all six sessions and receive all six books with a retail value of $90.00. Sharing conversations over books and a meal is a great way to bring people together to share their culture, rituals, and traditions. With compassion at heart and a journey with history, our goal is to build a community that understands and promotes cross-cultural dialogue with our neighbors.
