Description

When people think grief, they often think of death—but that misses the mark a little. Loss of all kinds can incur grief. The COVID pandemic brought about a lot of losses for our kids’… routine, social connection, parent’s income, time in the community, even a standard sense of safety was lost to many of our kids. Living with Loss is a six-week pilot grief-skills education program that covers the following topics: What is grief? What are emotions? What are your needs when you grieve? How to support our friends who grieve. Navigating school through grief. Continuing your grief journey. Jackie Carson is a non-traditional social work student at Winthrop University. She plans to pursue a master’s degree upon graduating in May. Jackie is an intern with the SC Trust and is working with multiple agencies in Rock Hill and the surrounding area. She comes from an empowerment perspective and her areas of interest include mental health, trauma and resilience, underserved communities, and grief and loss support. When she’s not working, Jackie enjoys spending time in nature, reading, watching true-crime, and hanging out with her family, including her many four-legged family members. The six-week rolling group will meet every other week and help build connections and trust within the group.
