Taking place on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, from 11 am to 5 pm the event, which sees Reach Out Morongo Basin supporters from across the basin open their homes to curious visitors, is the neighbors-helping-neighbors program’s biggest fundraiser bringing in thousands of dollars in ticket sales and sponsorships every year to support its services to senior and disabled residents of the Morongo Basin. In its return from a two-year Covid hiatus, this year’s tour will feature four unique homes located in Morongo Valley, Joshua Tree, and Twentynine Palms. An original Morongo Valley homestead cabin it has been expanded several times. The property has several Native American Memorial installations as well as creative desert landscaping. Wine bottle walls on the porch and a beer cap mosaic wall indoors highlight the owner's love of repurposing items into art. Roy’s Motel in Joshua Tree is the home of Paul Roy. From the main house with its mosaic fireplace and unique touches, the art den used by Karan to create her visions, a second casita as well as a 60’ desert mosaic wall built of repurposed metal there will be something to catch your eye and draw you in. Chuck’s Cabin in Twentynine Palms is the home of Ash Maharaj. Built in 1950 it was designed as a midcentury cabin will high open beam ceilings and a 360-degree view of the desert landscapes. With a traditional Southwest style décor the cabin embraces the desert aesthetics and features some signature artwork by international-selling local artist Chuck Caplinger. "The generosity of owners who open their homes to us is what makes this event such a success," said Executive Director Robin Schlosser who continued "Growing interest and success in the recent past has homeowners eager to show their homes which range from renovated homestead cabins to astonishing architectural masterpieces. The unique qualities of each home showcase our desert community and way of life.
