Peaceful Sky Benefit presents The Southwest Improvisers Convergence Co-facilitated by Michael Begay & Thollem Compositions by Raven Chacon and Michael Begay, plus free and structured improvisations with Chelsey Lee Trejo, Edie Tsong, Chris Jonas, Red Cell, Carlos Santistevan, Igloo Martian, Dan Howarth, Rob Wallace, Cyrus Campbell, Brian McOmber, Naïm Amor, Lauren Sarah Hayes, and Navajo (Diné) Nation Poet Laureate Dr. Laura Tohe, featuring screening of ACVilla’s 2016 video project Who Are US 2/19 Pidgin Palace Arts 2-6P Solo and Ensemble Performances + NGO Meet/Greet FREE (ALL AGES) 7P Door 7:30P Show $10-25 (21+) The Cause: The US Air Force has announced plans to escalate training over the most biodiverse region of the continental United States, where military air maneuvers especially harm conservation areas and Tribal Lands. The Peaceful Sky Benefit is sharing awareness of these proposals 2/19 - 2/22, in solidarity for peaceful skies and equitable stewardship of the region, featuring local and touring musicians at different Tucson venues. Net proceeds will support initiatives that have pledged to increase awareness of these proposals in 2023, including The Border Chronicle, a weekly newsletter that publishes original, on-the-ground reporting, analysis, and commentary from a border perspective. Event Details: Musicians from the Southwest (Diné Nation, New Mexico and Arizona) are gathering as The Southwest Improvisers Convergence, including Michael Begay (Diné) and Thollem as co-facilitators, plus Chelsey Lee Trejo, Edie Tsong, Chris Jonas, Red Cell, Carlos Santistevan, Igloo Martian, Dan Howarth, Rob Wallace, Cyrus Campbell, Brian McOmber, Naïm Amor, Lauren Sarah Hayes, and Navajo (Diné) Nation Poet Laureate Dr. Laura Tohe. In the afternoon, the musicians will play a continuous series of short sets in revolving configurations throughout the Pidgin Palace Arts compound. This will all be accompanied by a first time ever 4-hour screening of ACVilla’s (Chicana) 2016 video project Who Are US. In the evening, the ensembles will converge to perform spontaneous compositions, as well as pieces by composers Michael Begay and Raven Chacon (Diné). Prints of art and photography by Monica Aissa Martinez, Ahchipaptunhe, and Julius Schlosburg will be available.
