You are invited to a private screening of the new, award-winning documentary Last of the Right Whales.  North Atlantic right whales are dying faster than they can reproduce and Brevard County lies within their only known calving and nursery ground. With fewer than 350 individuals remaining and only about 70 breeding females, these great whales rarely die of natural causes. Instead, they suffer lethal injuries from vessel strikes and entanglements in commercial fishing gear. If we don’t stop killing them, they will be unable to reproduce in as few as 20 years. Last of the Right Whales tells the story of a passionate group of people – a wildlife photographer, a marine biologist, a whale rescuer, and a crab fisher – united in their cause to save the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. Local right whale experts Jamison Smith, Julie Albert (Coordinator of the Right Whale Volunteer Sighting Network), and Joel Cohen (wildlife photographer/research drone pilot) will serve on a Q&A panel afterwards to answer any questions. Bid on your choice of several silent auction items before the movie starts. Donations for items support local efforts to protect North Atlantic right whales. Food will not be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own food and/or beverage. Water coolers will be available for those who bring reusable bottles. The event is free, but please register here because seating is limited.
