Street Photography Inspiration through Gordon Parks
Gordon Parks is one of the most influential photojournalists of his time and his stint in Washington, DC helped grow his talent even further. One of his most well-known photographs: American Gothic, Washington, DC portrayed the labor of those keeping the Capital City held together even after facing constant racism in the most powerful city in the world. His work is regarded as using his camera “as a weapon”, and was a unique voice compared to other federally employed black photographers. His career after DC continued to push the boundaries as Gordon moved into music, poetry, and film.
Come join us as we learn from a critique of Gordon Parks’ style and learn more about his life through, “A Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks”. We will be taking over the computer lab and encourage you to bring blankets and pillows, picnic style. Feel free to bring food to enjoy during the event. Light refreshments (Beer, Wine, Soda) and popcorn will be available as well throughout the movie.
