Description

We have been all too accustomed to the throw away lifestyle. If something doesn’t work, throw it out and buy a new one. Because of this behavior our landfills are filling at a rapid rate and electronic waste has become the one of the largest pollution generators. So why not learn how to fix it?! Bring your broken, non-functioning things: electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, etc. for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you disassemble and troubleshoot your item. Whether we fix it or not, you’ll learn more about how it was manufactured and how it worked. This is a family-friendly event: children are heartily invited! We are so excited to announce our partnership with Goodwill Industries of San Diego County. We will be hosting events at specific Goodwill locations throughout the year. Check out below for more information. FAQs Is this event located in the same location each month? Since the COVID pandemic we have put a pause on our in-person clinics but are starting to come back slowly. We love to give more opportunity to the San Diego County community, so we have decided to move the SD Fixit Clinic to difference locations of the County each month. Below you will find where we will be at Goodwill this year. To find additional locations go to http://sdfixitclinics.eventbrite.com. Please note: the location on the registration site itself will change with the current month location. Please bring ONE ITEM that needs to repaired and keep in mind we will try our best to solve the problem but not every case is a success. How can I get up to date information? Simple, go to http://sdfixitclinics.eventbrite.com and follow us. Every time we add a new event, you will be the first to know. Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? Please contact [email protected] for any questions How can I volunteer to be a coach at the San Diego Fixit Clinics? If you are interested in volunteering with us please go to the following link and fill out the application. Click here for application I have a great idea for a repair demonstration and/or workshop, who do I talk to? Awesome! Please send us an email at [email protected] and let us know all about it. We love showing off our communities skills. I registered and now I am not sure I am able to attend, what should I do? If you don't know if you are going to attend please cancel your registration at least 3 days before the event to allow additional people to reserve a spot. Or simply email us at [email protected] and let us know. Too many no shows attached to your email will result in no more allowances to pre-register and must attend as a walk-in. Please note: no shows can cause a serious issue when planning for future programs in regards to venues, volunteers and location. We know that this is a free event but please give us the common courtesy and let us know if you are unable to attend. Does this cost money? No, this is a free event but please keep in mind this is not a free drop off and fix event. This event is hands-on for people that would like learn how to fix their items themselves with the help of our awesome Coaches. It would be great if you could bring your own supplies, but we will have some to share. There would be costs involved if your item needs additional or replacement parts. We may have some spare parts but it is the responsibility of the attendee to purchase and bring necessary parts the day of the event. Will you accept walk-ins? If time permits we will take walk-ins. It really depends on how quickly we can repair the items of the registered attendees. Do you take donations of tools and supplies? Oh boy do we, if you have any old tools you don’t need please bring them into to the next Fixit Clinic and/or email us at [email protected] to arrange drop off locations.
