A cottage garden is generally defined as an informal and individualistic planting of ornamental and edible plants including annuals, perennials, roses, shrubs, vines, small trees, herbs, and vegetables. Done thoughtfully, colorful cottage gardens can be created that are simultaneously water wise and even provide habitat for birds and pollinators.Join landscape designer Galen Fultz as he discusses the science and art of creating the water wise cottage garden. He will cover soil preparation, watering, plant selection (including California natives), and the art of creating a cottage garden.
Galen Fultz has been designing plant-focused landscapes in Northern California for over 40 years and is the owner of Avant Garden, a Marin County landscape design company. He has been cited in numerous publications and showcased in Better Homes and Gardens, California Home and Design, the Ross Garden Tour, and the HGTV Channel. He also founded the Marin Garden School in 1996 and has taught landscape design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
