Topic: Ethical Issues in Human Service Practice (3 hours) (Fulfills the CEU requirement for Ethics) This session will address concepts of ethics in human services with a focus on critical issues such as boundaries, bias, prejudice, values, and principles. Factors that influence the development of our biases, personal values, and professional behavior will be explored. Applications of models of ethical decision-making will also be discussed as well as highlighting the updates/changes to the NASW Code of Ethics that took effect at the beginning of this year. Learning Objectives: By the end of the session attendees should be able to: Identify the 3 foundational concepts of ethics in human services. Define a dual relationship and describe its impact on ethical behavior. Define bias and describe its impact on ethical behavior. Identify the impact of the 2017 changes in the NASW Code of Ethics on the professional use of technology. Define an ethical dilemma. Topic: Suicide Assessment & Intervention (1 hour) (Fulfills the CEU requirement for Suicide Prevention) This session will address the statistics on suicide in the United States and how this information can be used in the assessment of suicidality. Additionally, a standardized model for assessment and options for intervention will be presented and discussed. Learning Objectives: By the end of the session attendees should be able to: Identify the factors that influence suicidality. Identify the key elements of a thorough suicide assessment. Describe the options for effective suicide intervention. Presenter: Thomas J. Sheeran III, L.C.S.W Originally from Philadelphia, Tom earned a B.S. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Scranton, an M.S.W. from Boston College, and has been licensed as a Clinical Social Worker since 2003, He has served as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Marywood University's Graduate School of Social Work since 2003, teaching primarily Ethics, Psychopathology, and Administration. He has presented to various groups on the topic of Ethics. Tom currently works for Integrative Counseling Services as an Outpatient Therapist in Susquehanna County. CEU's: 4 CEU's (social work/marriage and family therapists/professional counselors) for this training will be provided by Widener University at a cost of $25.00.
