Jill Scott, a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, has long been the favorite of neo-soul music listeners, but it wasn't until her fourth album, The Light of the Sun, released in 2011, that she matched that ranking on the Billboard charts. Her distinctive blend of soulful vocals and spoken word is on full display throughout the album, from the breakbeat of the opening single "Shame (ft. Eve & The A Group)" to the relaxed groove of "Golden." At a live poetry reading, Questlove of The Roots first caught Scott's attention. Scott went on to create three studio albums in the 2000s and win three Grammys, including Best Urban/Alternative performance for the 2005 smash song "Cross My Mind." On tour in 2013, ticket buyers have been loving her commanding vocal performances and the throwback style of her live band.
