Description

Hope and Change for Haiti-HnC is offering a Mental Health workshop titled: Dismantling Stigma in Mental Health: Building Awareness and Knowledge. Considering the impact of Covid-19 on individuals, families, and communities, it is important to prioritize mental health care. In addition, the majority of people facing the challenges of leaving their country to settle in the United States experience mental health issues. Unfortunately, stigma has served as a barrier to mental health treatment, especially in Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latin X, and other communities. We invite you to register for this workshop to learn how to detect signs of mental health illness and to take care of yourself. You can save your life and that of loved ones. Our speakers and presenters include: Senator Alana DiMario , Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Dr. Cynthia Almonacy, Licensed Mental health Counselor, and other Licensed Social Workers and Mental Health professionals. The learning objectives of this workshop: 1) Recognize the potential risk factors and warning signs for a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and self-injury; 2) Effectively communicate with patients, families, youth, and peers using sensitive, non-judgmental language; 3) Recognize the impact of trauma related to immigration and how it affects mental health; 4) Develop a working knowledge of the ways in which people can challenge stigma, manage their individual mental health, and practice self-care. A certificate of completion will be awarded to every participant. Lunch will be provided We look forward to seeing you.
