Currently, Martin ranks as the No. 1 DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100, a title he held in 2016, 2017 and 2018. His popularity along with his ability to energize crowds contributes greatly to his success and status as one of the most recognized live DJs in the world. Martin Garrix Background and Accolades Hailing from the Netherlands, Martin Garrix was born Martijn Gerard Garretisen on May 14th, 1996, in the town of Amstelveen. He expressed an interest in music at the age of 8 and learned how to play the guitar. When 2004 came around, he developed an interest in DJ'ing when veteran DJ Tiësto performed at the Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony in Athens that same year. His first significant breakthrough event as a DJ is when he headlined the first edition of Ultra South Africa in 2014 at the age of 17. He was a member of Spinnin' Records and departed the label before he founded his label Stmpd Rcrds that same year. He later signed on with Sony Music. He also became the youngest DJ to headline for Ultra and gained notoriety through his other works. MTV awarded Martin with the Best World Stage Performance and Best Electronic Act awards at the MTV European Music Awards 2016. He performed In the Name of Love live with Bebe Rexha during the ceremony.
