Rope climbers, it is your time!!!Summit's annual red-point rope competition, Whips & Clips, is Saturday, February 25, 2023, at our new Grapevine location! This competition has top rope, lead climbing, and onsight finals.We have TWO waves to pick from, be sure you remember which wave you're singing up for, as you'll need to check in at that time (must be 16 or older to sign up as a competitor): Wave 1:1:00 pm - 4:00 pm (Check-in noon) Wave 2: 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm (Check-in 5:00 pm) In rope climbing, you need to find that lucky partner to cheer you on, belay, and compete against. So this year we are having everyone sign up as a team, to guarantee no one is left out. Note: You and your partner will be scored separately. Competitor team tickets are $80 and we have 35 team spots available in each wave (Only 1 team member needs to purchase a ticket.) Spectators come support your friends and get food & drinks (alcohol for 21+) at the end of each wave alongside the competitors for $25. ID required for alcohol and no climbing after drinking. Both waves are welcome to hang around until finals. If you need help finding a climbing partner, check out our Partner Matching Form! You have three hours to send the majestic & banger routes the setters have put up. Using the KAYA app your top 3 routes will be used for final scoring. Sending a route means starting from the bottom and going all the way to the top with no falls. After the second wave, we will pull the top 6 competitors in the elite category female, male, and non-binary for the Onsight finals. Finals will began around 9:45 pm and is free to the public. Category Breakdown: Men, Women, and Non-Binary Beginner: 5.6 - 5.10a Intermediate: 5.10a - 5.11a Advance: 5.11a - 5.12a Elite: 5.12a and up Prizes: Male, Female, and Non-binary are in separate categories. Elite category (Cash prize): 1st prize - $200 2nd place - $150 3rd place - $75 All other categories (Summit Gift Card prize): 1st place - $25 2nd place - $10 3rd place - $5 Please have the KAYA app downloaded and familiarized before the competition, as this will be how you input your scores.
