Description

What will the school fair be like? • Like a college fair, each school will have a table display and parents will be able to visit tables and talk to school representatives to learn about what the school has to offer. This is not meant to be a competitive event, but a chance for parents to find out more about educational opportunities in a supportive environment. • Unlike a college fair, there will be music, refreshments, and fun activities for kids to enjoy while their parents visit with schools including a scavenger hunt with prizes and other fun things to do. School setup time will be from noon - 1pm, doors open to public at 1pm. What is the purpose of the school fair? • Provide information to parents on what educational options are available in their community • Provide information to parents on what financial assistance may be available to help them access and afford nonpublic education options • Provide information to parents on school choice initiatives and efforts being made to expand options for parents • Provide schools a chance to meet interested parents and promote what their school can offer • Provide a fun family event to celebrate parental choice in education What do schools need to do to participate? • Register on Eventbrite by February 6th • There is no charge to participate • Create a table display – each school will have a banquet table and two chairs provided. Ideas for your display - o Tablecloth o Sign with school name, if not on tablecloth o Laptop with revolving photos of events, classrooms, students, extracurricular activities, etc. o Free giveaway highly recommended – candy, pencils with school name, etc. (nothing expensive necessary!) o Handouts for parents • Organize people to staff your table – administrator, teachers, staff, active school parent volunteers – whoever you think would promote your school with enthusiasm! Who is sponsoring this event? Iowa Alliance for Choice in Education (Iowa ACE) and Hispanics Aligned for Choice in Education (HACER) • Promotional materials and activities like the scavenger hunt will be available in both English and Spanish languages • If your school has materials in Spanish available, you’re encouraged to bring them How will parents know about the fair? Iowa ACE and HACER will be undertaking a large social media advertising campaign in both English and Spanish, as well as promoting through traditional media. We’ll also reach out through community organizations like churches and other organizations. Questions: Contact Iowa ACE/HACER at 515.323.0687 or [email protected]
