Skill level: All Levels Prerequisite skills: None Does your favorite pair of jeans have a few too many holes? Do you have a garment that is worn out but so beloved you just can’t bring yourself to throw it away? Bring Your Own Project and learn mending techniques to make it wearable again! Join us for a hands-on introductory course that will teach you the foundational skills for the Japanese mending style of sashiko, making patches from thread only, and using a fabric patch and decorative embroidery to not only make that worn-out item wearable again, but to add an individualistic flair to your everyday look! This class is perfect for all levels, from those new to a needle and thread, to those looking to increase their sewing skillset! Only 6 places! Students will work with hand needles and thread to mend a worn-out item from their own closet! Students will: Learn about the Japanese mending style of sashiko, its history, and usesLearn how to make a thread patch to mend holes in garmentsLearn how to use basic embroidery techniques to secure patches on garmentsMend and update a damaged garment from your own closet to make something beautiful and wearable again!Students are asked to bring a garment that has been loved to exhaustion -- or just has a few holes. You will learn how to breathe new life into your favorite pieces! All other materials will be provided by Rightfully Sewn Academy and it's donors in order to promote and encourage a sustainable future in the fashion industry. A supplies list will be provided for students to bring their own supplies to class, if desired. Masks are welcome but not required for the duration of class.
