Description
Students will learn a variety of beginning metalsmithing techniques, with a focus on the skills of hand fabrication & soldering. Using raw sterling & copper sheet & wire + various metalsmithing tools, we’ll hand form & manipulate the metal into various charms & pendant type pieces that can be used in making necklaces, bracelets & earrings. This class is focused more on developing skills and techniques toward making jewelry, rather than on a specific project. Students will gain skills in: Sawing & piercingsoldering with jewelry torches metal forming metal texturing + metal stampingmaking jump ringsmaking ear wires simple stone setting patina + various finishing techniques & more. All materials will be supplied. The class will take place over two full-day sessions: Session 1: March 4, 10-5Session 2: March 5, 10-5There will be an hour break for lunch each day. This class is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge of jewelry making. What should I wear or bring to the class? Please wear work boots or shoes made from leather or canvas (no nylon, it melts!). Wear natural fiber clothing (cotton is best). Safety glasses are required and will be provided, but if you have a pair you're comfortable in, consider bringing your own. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
