REDWOOD CITY, CA — What began as a way to beat back boredom amid the early days of quarantine has turned a Redwood City grandmother into a neighborhood cult hero, NBC Bay Area reports. Mary Kay Mitchell's journey to becoming "The Chalk Granny" started with her sketching out colorful drawings in her driveway in March of last year shortly after shelter-in-place orders went into effect, the report said. The 68-year-old now creates three to four drawings a week, bringing cheer to her neighbors amid dark times. Mitchell also takes request for custom projects for a small fee according to the report, donating the proceeds to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
