All too often, a great trombone player will graduate from school only to find that there are limited opportunities to play. Worse yet, if you join a community band, the conductor will often tell you to play softly because you are overpowering the flute section, and the flutes are complaining. You worked really hard to develop a big, sassy, brassy tone and nobody lets you show it off.
Never fear. the solution is here. The Huddled Masses Orchestra plays the music of Balkan Brass Bands. This is popular in eastern Europe and there are now bands in North America who play this repertoire. One main feature is a surging low brass section to provide rhythmic drive similar to the feeling you get when riding your Harley. All of a sudden the low brass have joined the cool boys and girls.
We are looking for two or three low brass (trombone or baritone or euphonium). This is fun to play. We have the sheet music. We won't make a lot of money but you won't regret it. We play in minor keys and odd rhythms such as 5/4, 7/8 or 9/8. we do weddings. The only country music we play is music from the Old Country. we rehearse weekly in the mid-coast area.
and we are still looking for a backup accordion player.
