Description
join me for 3 inclusive walks surrounded by the works of great artists. all sizes, all genders, all abilities, as well as allies, are encouraged to participate. WHEN thursdays at 6pm jan 26 - hot tea month feb 23 - black history month mar 23 - women's history month ABOUT ELLIOT elliot is a fat, white, autistic, atheist, agender, queer, disabled spoonie* & singleton** with ADHD. they’re an all-inclusive yoga & meditation teacher, certified peer supporter, & failed misanthrope who enjoys being active when they can. depending on where they're hiking & how they're feeling, they use hiking poles, a rollator, or occasionally a wheelchair to hike with friends when it’s not too cold outside. NATIVE LANDS our walk will take place on the traditional, unceded, & stolen lands of the Adena, Hopewell, Myaamia (Miami), Shaw&asse Tula (Shawanwaki / Shawnee), & Wazhazhe Manzhan (Osage) Peoples who were forcefully & violently removed from the land & continue to face discrimination & violence today. many of us are guests, settlers & immigrants to this land & recognize that outdoor recreation is rooted in colonialism. to learn more about the land’s history & how we can commit to undoing these dynamics, visit the Greater Cincinnati Native American Coalition (https://gcnativeamericancoalition.com/). ABOUT THE WALK each hike will have a different theme. our routes will give us a tour of paintings throughout the museum that fit into the month's theme. we'll go at the pace of the slowest hiker with NO shame! and breaks will be taken as needed by anyone in each group. NEED ASSISTANCE/GIVE ASSISTANCE if you have any concerns about participating in the hike because of accessibility needs or if you’re willing to assist someone (pushing someone in a wheelchair, for example) who may need it in order to participate in the hike, please contact elliot at elliot(at)change.yoga. GETTING THERE located in eden park, the museum is accessible by metro bus routes 1, 4, & 11. the route 1 stop is near the museum, but the stop for routes 4 & 11 requires walking up a steep hill. the museum has free & accessible parking, in addition to an electric vehicle charging station & bike racks. not everyone has access to a vehicle so I set up a carpool sign-up. if you have an extra seat or 2 in your car, you can offer to give someone a ride. and if you need a ride, you can claim a seat. http://www.groupcarpool.com/t/mdf6w3 REMINDERS this walk is inclusive to queer folks, transgender/nonbinary folks, gender non-conforming folks, fat folks, people of color & all marginalized people including disabled people using mobility devices. be mindful of gender pronouns! don’t assume someone’s pronoun by their appearance. we’ll begin the hike with intros where everyone is invited to share their name & pronouns as they’re comfortable. our walk is intended to be a safer space for fat folks, disabled folks, & people who live in marginalized identities. talk of weight loss, diets, or body shaming isn’t permitted. COST admission to the cincinnati art museum is free & there is no cost to participate in the hike. if you have disposable income & would like to support the cincinnati art museum or compensate elliot for their time in organizing these hikes, you can contribute below: make a donation to the cincinnati art museum at www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org/donate buy elliot a coffee at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/changedotyoga or venmo @elliotkesse MORE INFO by participating in this event, you're agreeing to the hiking legal liability: https://bit.ly/3Bp7OED *spoonies are people living with chronic illness/pain & come from the spoon theory by christina miserandino: https://butyoudontlooksick.com/.../writ.../the-spoon-theory/ **singletons, as opposed to systems, are people who don’t have dissociative identity disorder (DID). go here to learn more about DID: https://youtu.be/9w-Ro0exQk0
